Osafo-Maafo leaves for Paris Club meetings

Accra, July 21, GNA- Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, left Accra on Tuesday at the head of a government delegation to attend meetings of the Paris Club of Creditors in France. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday said as a follow up to Ghana achieving Completion Point of the enhanced HIPC Initiative, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning had been invited by the Paris Club for negotiations on relief for the HIPC Completion Point.

On July 9 and July 13, the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Executive Directors of the World Bank respectively approved Ghana's HIPC Completion Point.

The statement said the decision of the two institutions was based on the satisfactory progress being made by the government in respect of political and economic governance.

Other members of the delegation include Dr Paul Acquah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and officials of Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and Bank of Ghana.
