Tigo Ghana’s leading Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Shelter 4 Education, has been hailed yet again, following a number of prestigious industry awards it has won since it was launched earlier this year.

At the 5th Otumfuo Teachers Awards held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Tigo received the Asantehene special award in honor of Shelter 4 Education.

The project was selected for special recognition for its enormous contribution towards teaching and learning in Ghana by improving the learning conditions of pupils in underprivileged communities, specifically by providing infrastructural development.

The citation conferred on Tigo read: “Shelter 4 Education recognizes and brings to life society’s core belief that education is a human right with the immense power to transform.”

It further highlighted the company’s devotion to bettering the lives of children by stating: “The foundations of the schools you have built, not only support physical structures for learning, but the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable human development.”

The awards scheme was instituted in 2011 with the aim to promote and enhance quality education in Ghana under the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation and has since then honoured 100 teachers from deprived communities across the country.

The colourful and grand ceremony of chiefs and people of Asanteman was attended by government, security and private organisation officials, and the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
