Performance Improvement Program: SIGA collaborates with PwC and GIZ to train Specified Entities

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (Ghana) LTD (PwC) and GIZ, recently concluded a Performance Improvement Programme (PIP) aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency and sustainability of selected Specified Entities.

The three-day program, held at the PwC Business School in Accra, provided participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive profitability and improve governance.

The training featured interactive sessions led by experienced facilitators at PwC. Participants delved into modules covering critical topics such as Mega Trends Shaping the Global Landscape, Analysis of the Current Global Economic Outlook, Harnessing Technology for Effective Governance, Turnaround Management, and Essentials for Effective Strategic Planning.

These sessions were designed to be intensive, requiring participants to complete assignments, deliver presentations, and participate in quizzes to reinforce their learning.

The final day of the program featured a closing ceremony attended by Ms. Lovia Bamfo, Director with the Public Enterprises Secretariat, who represented the Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe.

In her remarks, Ms. Bamfo commended PwC and GIZ for their impactful partnership and expressed the Minister’s appreciation for their efforts to strengthen the capacity of Specified Entities.

She emphasized the importance of translating the insights gained from the training into actionable strategies, stating, “The Honourable Minister is deeply interested in the performance of our Specified Entities and is pleased to see them benefit from this training. It is our expectation that the knowledge and skills acquired will be implemented to drive significant improvement across the public sector.”

Dr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, Senior Technical Advisor in Energy at SIGA and former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), also conveyed appreciation to PwC on behalf of SIGA’s management.

During a session moderated by Ekua Mills, Associate Director of PwC, Dr. Agyeman-Budu shared practical strategies from his extensive experience in the energy sector, inspiring participants to adopt innovative approaches to enhance performance.

Another highlight of the program was a session led by Mr. Eric Bonsu Adjabeng, Head of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation at SIGA, who provided an overview of performance monitoring and evaluation processes for Specified Entities.

He elaborated on the performance contract dimensions, process flows, and the overall performance index of these entities from 2020 to date, offering insights for improvement.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. James Korsah-Brown, Project Lead for the Performance Improvement Program. He thanked PwC and GIZ for their support and urged participants to become agents of change in their respective organizations.

He emphasized the need for proactive implementation of the knowledge acquired during the training to advance innovation and profitability.

He also commended the Director-General of SIGA, Mr. John Boadu, for his dedication to advancing good corporate governance and increasing dividend payments to the State.

He further highlighted the Director-General's active involvement in performance improvement initiatives for Specified Entities and his instrumental role in facilitating the realization of the 2024 PIP.
