The Deputy Minister for Energy in charge of petroleum, Mohammed Amin Adam has explained the petroleum register will ensure effective and efficient utilisation of the petroleum resources.

He said the petroleum register is critical for the NPP government to achieve its vision in the petroleum sector.

Speaking at the launch of the petroleum register at the petroleum commission on Monday, February 5, 2018, the deputy minister said as a way of benefit, the register will ensure that Ghanaians have full disclosure of petroleum agreements, permits, certificates, authorisations, approvals, and consents.

"It will provide civil society organisations and citizens alike the single point or platform to monitor all upstream petroleum activities and demand accountability of the government”, he emphasized.

Mr Amin Adam added that the petroleum register will help investors to know the state of exploration activities, petroleum blocks available, occupied and farm-in opportunities.

“Government will also use it as a source of information for monitoring petroleum activities in the country,” he said.

“This single point of disclosure of all petroleum activities will indeed serve as a major check on government to be cautious in its dealings with the people of Ghana” he stressed.
