The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam George, has disclosed that the government has rolled out measures to enhance the quality of telecommunications services across Ghana.

The Ningo-Prampram MP stated that his ministry has taken note of complaints from Ghanaians regarding the quality of service delivered by various telecommunications companies.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Sam George said, “I have noted several complaints about the quality of service from almost all the network providers in the country.”

According to him, the government has approved technology neutrality for MTN Ghana and has authorised the National Communications Authority (NCA) to offer additional spectrum to both MTN and Telecel Ghana.

He explained that this move is aimed at equipping telecom providers with the necessary tools to enhance their service delivery, warning that sanctions would be applied should they fail to provide Ghanaians with quality services.

He announced that the NCA will closely monitor improvements and enforce penalties for non-compliance.

“I have taken a decisive policy decision to approve technology neutrality for MTN and additional spectrum for MTN Ghana. I have also directed the NCA to offer additional spectrum to Telecel Ghana,” he stated.

“This will provide operators with more resources to improve their service offerings and the overall quality of service,” he explained.

“I wish to serve notice that the NCA will, within three months of the assignment of this additional spectrum, begin rigorous enforcement of quality-of-service standards. Failure by network operators to improve service quality will result in stiff fines.”
