Port community bids farewell to Kumi Adjei-Sam

The entire Port community converged at the First Baptist Church in Tema to bid farewell to the former General Manager of Tema Fishing Harbour, Kumi Adjei Sam popularly known as Kastro.

Present at the ceremony were key players in Ghana’s industry and governance including the Deputy Minister of Transport, Daniel Titus-Glover, Board Chairman of GPHA, Peter Mac-Manu, Director-General of GPHA, Michael Luguje, Director of Tema Port, Sandra Opoku, Director of Takoradi Port, Captain Ebenezer Afadzi, CEO of Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Benonita Bismarck, CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Afua Asabea Asare and her deputy, Albert Kassim Diwura as well as the President of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa, Jean Marie Koffi.

Others were the former Director Generals of GPHA, Ben Owusu Mensa, Richard Anamoo and Paul Asare-Ansah, former Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport, Twumasi Ankrah Selby and Chief Director at the Ministry of Railways, Cecil Ocran, former Director of Takoradi Port, Owusu Koranteng, former Director of Tema Port, Edward Kofi Osei and Rose Kakari Anang a former player in the port industry among others.

In a tribute, the Director of Tema Port, Sandra Opoku described Kumi Adjei-Sam as someone who was respected and admired for his enduring commitment and out- standing contributions to the Maritime industry.

“He was instrumental in developing new systems in facilitating the export trade, notable is the current documentation used at the export terminal. He worked with SPEG to develop SOPs and work procedures for the Operations in the Terminal. He also played a critical role in setting up the operations of the ABS Fishing Harbour in Sekondi. He was instrumental in diversifying the revenue sources to include entry tolls amidst great opposition from the indigenous fisher folk. At the Tema Fishing Harbour where he was last posted, Mr. Adjei Sam brought proposals to restructure the tariffs and the licensing of operators. He introduced new systems for performance, monitoring and reporting,” the DP of Tema, Sandra Opoku outlined in a tribute.
