Hoteliers in Ghana are battling to survive in the face of the energy crisis in the country, President of the Ghana Hotels Association has told TV3.

“Energy has become a major challenge because it is not only about not having enough energy but also the cost of energy has become so high,” Herbert Acquaye said on Thursday, August 13.

He expressed these sentiments on the sidelines of the launch of this year’s National Hotels Awards.

The Awards are expected to be held on Saturday, November 21 on the theme: ‘Rewarding creativity and excellence in hotel keeping’.

But Mr Acquaye insisted that the power crisis has had its toll on hotel operations in the country.

“Hotels which did not have gen sets have had to struggle and not been able to provide services and even those with gen sets have to incur very huge expenses.”

Businesses have crumbled in the era of the power crisis as most industrial areas have been made to ration power.

The crisis is, however, expected to minimize after October, when two power barges from Turkey are expected to add up to the energy production.
