President cuts sod for Aflao MMT Terminal

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday cut the sod for commencement of work on the Aflao Metro Mass Transit Terminal with a promise to step up development projects in the Volta Region.

The project, which would cost 900,000 Ghana cedis, would serve as a transit point for vehicles that would be leaving Accra to and from Togo and Benin. The sod-cutting formed part of the President's two-day official visit to the Volta Region.

President Mahama promised that Government would not renege on its promises for the region and appealed to the people to stand firm even in the face of challenges.

He said Government would harness potentials from the Volta Region to provide jobs and speed up the development agenda of the area and urged them to fully participate in Government’s projects that would provide the development.

President Mahama said Aflao, as a transit point, deserved better and Government would assist and ensure that in all projects blossomed to serve the citizenry and beyond.

He said Government's decision not to initiate new projects was to ensure that all old ones were completed before embarking on new ones to satisfy all sectors of the economy.

Togbui Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, commended President Mahama for all the projects initiated in the area, and gave the assurance that he would provide the necessary support that would ensure smooth completion of the projects.

He said job creation in the area was crucial as most of the youth had struggled for non-existent jobs in the area.

At the Adina Salt Factory near Keta, President Mahama lauded the production of salt as it sought to diversify the economy and increase job creation in the country for the unemployed.
