Consumers are expected to pay more for sachet water soon. This is after Parliament recently passed a 10 per cent environmental tax on plastics.
The environmental tax is part of several taxes government recently proposed as part of efforts to rake in additional revenue to make up for budget shortfalls.
The taxes on plastics initially exempted pharmaceuticals and agricultural sectors as well as plastic for water sachets but Joy Business has learnt all these would now be affected.
In 2012, government introduced a 20 per cent Environment Tax on plastic packaging materials and products as part of the measures to protect the environment.
