Prof. Lord Mensah links Ghana's economic struggles to compromised human resource quality

Economist and senior lecturer, Professor Lord Mensah, has blamed the current economic woes in the country on decline in the quality of human resources overseeing the economy.

He believes that compromised management and expertise have significantly contributed to the country’s financial woes, resulting in severe hardships imposed on businesses, institutions and individuals.

In a post shared via X, Professor Mensah highlighted the need for skilled and effective economic leadership to address these challenges.

“The quality of human resource managing the Ghanaian economy has been compromised. The reason for the economic mess we find ourselves in,” he wrote on November 4, 2024.

"Every economy is affected by global pressures (systemic exposure). Governments are assessed not on exposures they can easily control. In fact, they are assessed based on how they manage their economies through global uncontrolled exposures like the Russia-Ukraine war," he added.

Prof. Mensah's post comes amid increasing economic difficulties in Ghana, which have led the country to seek a financial bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
