Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has acknowledged that there is hardship in Ghana.

However, he believes that the standard of living in Ghana, regardless of the hardship, is better than in the United Kingdom.

The man popularly called Chairman Wontumi indicated that people in the United Kingdom hardly have the cash to save as all their income goes into funding their upkeep.

Citing an example of party attendees being made to come along with their food and water for parties, he said there is an abundance of food in Ghana that party attendees are always provided with food.

“I acknowledge that there is hardship in the country. But the hardship is global in nature and we are working to make life better for the people of Ghana. The standard of living in Ghana is far better than that of the people in the UK.

"This is true because now, even if you are attending a party in the UK, you have to provide your own drinks, water and food. So if someone earns 1,500 pounds in the UK and pays rent of 800 pounds and pays for other bills, what is left of the person to save and also take care of family? Nothing. So we are better off. In UK if you’ve to go to the hospital, you will have to book an appointment but it’s not the same with this country.

"I will urge you, journalists, to tell the truth to the people of Ghana, and those who live outside Ghana should also be honest with their family members and let them understand how the hardship is global. The people should be made to know that COVID and the Russia-Ukraine war has had an adverse effect on every country,” he said while speaking to the media.
