Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, has said there cannot be any meaningful development without sufficient revenue.

“To this end, we will continue to explore innovative ways of raking in more revenue and undertake prudent measures to ensure that we consistently improve upon the revenue base of the Assembly to enhance development activities in the municipality,” he said.

Mr Quaye said this during the 2016 first ordinary meeting of the first session of the fourth assembly at the Ga West Municipal Assembly.

He said as at November, 2015, the Assembly has been has been able to collect a total of GH? 3,853,483.75 from its internally generated funds representing 167.6 per cent of the total estimated revenue under review.

Mr. Quaye said during the year under review, the Assembly did not receive any releases under the District Development Facility (DDF) but spent GH? 42,942.67 as at October from the previous year’s release.

“I must say that the DDF which used to be the most reliable source of revenue to Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies (MMDAs) turned out to be the most unpredictable for the year”, he said.

The MCE said under the District Assemblies’ Common Fund, the Assembly was allocated GH? 1,126,567.85 but net receipt was GH? 820,995.99 for the first and second quarter of 2015.

“An amount of GH? 2,652,947.07 was received under the Urban Development Grant (UDG3) while GH? 1,507,016.62 was spent as at November 30, 2015”, he said.
