A recent survey conducted by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) reveals a steady increase in public confidence in insurance within Ghana.
The survey known as the Public Perception, Awareness, and Confidence (PPAC) survey tracks Ghanaians' views on insurance products and services.
The 2024 findings mark the fifth consecutive year of the survey and indicate a positive trend in confidence levels.
The Confidence Index, which started at 46.5 out of 100 in 2019, reached its peak this year at 62.5, suggesting a growing public trust in insurance as a tool for financial security and risk protection.
The survey is conducted annually across all sixteen administrative regions with a standardized questionnaire targeting 1,462 respondents.
Through these insights, the NIC develops policies to increase insurance penetration and enhance service delivery.
Additionally, the 2022 survey assessed the impact of the global pandemic and Ghana’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) on insurance perceptions.
However, this year's study shifted focus from these topics, deeming them less relevant in the current context. Instead, it examined attitudes among non-insured households, aiming to understand barriers to insurance uptake.
This shift seeks to gather insights on why certain populations remain uninsured and how they might be encouraged to consider insurance, thereby contributing to broader insurance coverage in Ghana.
