Wa, Dec.6, GNA – Madam Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN says the company has experienced as many as 150 fibre cuts this year alone due to road construction works.
This, she said had affected quality service delivery that the company envisioned to provide clients.
Madam Lumor made this known in an interaction with editors and senior journalists in the Upper West Region at the “MTN Editors Forum,” in Wa on Tuesday.
The forum was aimed at enlightening the journalists on MTN operations and also collaborates with them to help educate the public on the difficulties and challenges the company is facing in its efforts to provide quality service to the people.
Madam Lumor said the company is collaborating with stakeholders in the road sector to help address the problem.
The fibre cuts is also bringing a lot of financial burden to the company, which spends additional money to repair the facility while the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies charge MTN high fees “business operations fees".
Madam Lumor gave the assurance that the company is working diligently to overcome some of the challenges impeding its operations and called on clients to stay steadfast with the corporate entity.
The MTN Corporate Services Executive announced that the company had added economic empowerment on skill training to its health and education programmes as part of its corporate services to the vulnerable in the society.
Madam Lumor said so far the company had spent a total of GH?5.9 million in education and health programmes, with GH?4.1 million going to education and GH?1.8 million provided for health support.
The company had also invested one billion dollars on its networks and 90 million dollars on West Africa Cable Network Services to link the sub-region to Europe and other parts of the world.
Madam Lumor said the company drilled 20 boreholes in some communities in the Region last year to provide potable water for the people and help reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases.
It also provided 20 computers and accessories to the 10 Information, Communication Technology Centres that it built in rural communities to encourage young people to have access to internet services.
Madam Lumor announced that the company has a subscriber population of 10 million.
