The Royal Jordanian Airlines, the national airline of Jordan, on Wednesday made its inaugural flight to Accra to signify its commitment to connect Ghana to Jordan and vice versa.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr Amir Nosrati, Country and Airport Manager, Royal Jordanian, said although it had operations to parts of Africa such as Egypt, Tunisia, and Algiers, there was none in West or South Africa.
He said the airline would operate bi-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays. It would arrive in Accra on Wednesdays at 6.30am and depart at 8.00am to Amman, with a one-hour stop in Lagos, Nigeria. On Fridays, it would arrive in Accra at 4:30 and depart at 6:30pm, using the same route. The number of flights would be increased in the future.
Royal Jordanian, which currently flies to about 60 nations, operates a fleet of jet Airbus and would from 2014 add the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to its fleet. The service to Accra is on board an Airbus A320-200 with 24 seats in business class and 260 seats in Economy.
Mr Amir noted that Jordan was strategically placed between the Far East and Europe to offer excellent connectivity to Europe, the Americas, as well as other parts of the Middle East.
Royal Jordanian’s code share agreements with other airlines allow the passengers easy connectivity to other countries in the Middle East while partnering with local travel agencies.
He said Jordan had a lot to offer tourists including the Jordan River where Jesus Christ was baptized, Petra-the rock city, Wadi Rum (the valley of the moon), the Dead Sea, as well as connections to other historic sites in Jerusalem, Israel.
He thanked government and airport authorities for the support in enabling the airline to fly to Accra.
“I am so happy we are here, there is good business between Ghana and Jordan, with several Jordanian companies operating in Ghana and we aim to let Ghanaians and Africans know about Jordan and Jordanians also know about Ghana,” he said.
