SHC affordable housing to be completed in December

The State Housing Company Limited’s (SHC) affordable housing project consisting of five blocks with 72 units, at Borteyman in the Greater-Accra Region is to be completed by December 2014.

The project, being funded through internally generated funds, which was started about 18 months ago would be ready for habitation by the end of the year and sold out at affordable prices, Dr Mark Nii Akwei Ankrah, SHC Managing Director told newsmen after a tour of the housing units at Adenta and Borteyman sites.

Dr Ankrah said the SHC is strategically set to play its part in meeting the over 1.5 million housing needs of the country. He said SHC was building modern apartments in all the regions of Ghana under its regeneration project, as part of government’s affordable housing projects.

According to him, the state of affairs at the SHC had improved dramatically over the past years under the current board of directors, adding that social housing was very relevant, as it provided the right catalysts for economic development.

Dr Ankrah stated that the SHC’s housing project, particularly the Kaneshie regeneration project, which seeks to increase the total number of housing units and re-house the existing leaseholders at no extra cost, would soon be completed, as the Company is set to amicably resolve issues with feuding residents.

The SHC has also developed a 3.6-acre land in the Adenta Municipality into a 70-housing-unit facility, which includes bore holes, swimming pool, supermarket, gymnasium, and basketball pitch, is also to be completed by the end of the year.

Dr Ankrah said SHC has taken advantage of the properties of the company to provide affordable houses for the people.
