Effective Monday, July 15, 2024, all public sector workers have been instructed not to report for work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of the transaction to sell a 60 percent stake in four hotels.

The hotels involved are Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and Ridge Royal Hotel.

The directive issued by Organised Labour and signed by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) states, "From Monday, July 15, 2024, all workers in the public sector must not go to work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of the process for the sale of its shares in the hotels."

This directive comes after the Minister of Employment, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, on Thursday, July 11, announced in parliament that the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) had approved for the controversial sale to move forward.

In response to this, Organised Labour, in a statement believes an indefinite strike action has become necessary despite various calls on the government and SSNIT to terminate the sale process, which will result in a Minister of State [Bryan Acheampong] owning the majority shares of the four hotels belonging to the state-owned entity [SSNIT].

"We find it extremely difficult to understand why the NPRA would approve such a flawed deal two weeks after the directive," Organised Labour reiterated.

Organised Labor further stated, "The proposed sale of the SSNIT shares in the four hotels is not in the best interest of Ghanaian workers. We demand that SSNIT terminates the process immediately."
