Shell retailers win trip to Tokyo

Four hardworking Shell staff – two Retailers, one Quality Marshal and one Territory Manager – who excelled in their work in 2015 will go an all-expenses paid trip to Tokyo, Japan to participate in the Shell Global Smiling Stars Programme.

They will be accompanied by their spouses. This was revealed during the 2015 Shell Retailers’ Conference and Awards, where a total of forty-one (41) awards were presented to deserving retailers and support staff for their sterling performance in 2015 that contributed to the growth of the business.

The Smiling Stars Programme, organised by Shell Global, is an annual event that rewards its sales staff for exceptional performance across its operating units around the world. Shell believes that ‘people make the difference real’, hence the institution of the programme.

Mr. Theophilus Aboagye of the Takoradi Highway Shell service station was crowned the 2015 Country Retailer of the Year, while Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Opoku of Avenor Shell service station was hailed the 2015 Gold Retailer of the Year.

Mr. Michael K. Avorvuvu was judged the Forecourt Service Champion, and Mr. Philip Assampong was presented with the award for the Territory Manager of the Year 2015.

The event brought together Shell retailers across the country to review their 2015 performance and share the business focus for 2016.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Sharing the Success, Shaping the Future – Own It’, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana the Shell Licensee, Mr. Ebenezer Faulkner, commended the retailers for their achievements during a challenging year in the industry and urged them to go the extra mile and exceed their sales and customer service targets.

“By doing so, we can grow the business and maintain our industry-leading position,” he said.

“We will continue to work with our retailers to help them benefit from the strength and reputation of the Shell brand by using the full range of traditional and digital media to fully optimise marketing opportunities for Shell’s product and services,” said Mr. Faulkner.

The Retail Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr. Kwame Ackah added that Vivo Energy Ghana will continue to equip its forecourt staff, including Quality Marshals, to better serve Shell customers.

“In view of this, we will be rolling out a full-year comprehensive training and coaching programme to equip our forecourt staff to deliver a high-end experience to our valued customers”, he said.

In an interview, the 2015 Country Retailer of the Year, Mr. Thoephilus Aboagye, expressed his excitement for winning the most prestigious award of the night.

“It is a great honour for me and my team to win this award. I was awarded the Gold Retailer of the Year in 2014 and I am very humbled to have received such recognition for my performance last year”.
