Skyy Power Fm to Hold Economic Summit

The management of Skyy Power FM, a Takoradi-based radio station, with the support of the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council, has decided to hold an economic summit with the sole aim of identifying areas through which a Marshall Plan would be drawn for the economic growth of the Western Region.

The chief executive of the radio station, Mr. Wilson Arthur, who disclosed this at a news conference in Takoradi, to outline programmes for the fifth anniversary celebration of the station, said the Western Region is arguably one of the naturally endowed regions in the country yet it has the least infrastructure for development.

"As a result of the apparent neglect of the Western Region, we at Skyy Power FM believe that it is about time this region took steps to state its own case," he said and added that his outfit had already contacted experts in the various fields of human endeavour to present papers on what could move the region forward.

Mr. Arthur, who was flanked by his head of news, Dr. Akofa Segbefia, therefore appealed to the news media and practitioners to give support to the regional summit by highlighting the essence and importance of the event, not necessarily as Skyy Power FM's baby, but as a contribution towards the economic uplift of the Western Region.

The chief executive also hinted that in the near future his outfit would establish a television station for the Western Region to help expose the latter to the outside world.

According to him, the equipment for the establishment of the TV station is ready but he has decided to wait for sometime because the regional economy is not ripe to have a TV station.

Skyy Power was the first private radio station to be established in the Western Region
