Some social media users have shared varying opinions on the length of the Tema-Mpakadan Standard Gauge Railway Line and two Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on November 22, 2024.

The President commissioned the trains at the Tema Railhead opposite the Golden Jubilee Terminal.

The aftermath of the launch has left many questioning the purpose of the trains.

One user on X (formerly Twitter), Samuel Sesah, wrote, "Is this the full length of the trains or is there more?" with a picture of the train attached.

This has sparked various comments from users.

Background:

The newly completed 97-kilometre standard gauge railway line connects seven stations along the Tema-Mpakadan route.

It forms part of the strategy to phase out outdated narrow gauge rail systems and replace them with more efficient and modern infrastructure.

The two DMU trains, procured at a cost of $4.2 million, are designed specifically for the standard gauge railway and are expected to enhance passenger transport along the corridor.

Commercial passenger services commenced earlier this year, providing a faster, more comfortable alternative to road transport for commuters in the region.

Why shd govt add more coaches at this initial stage? What's the estimated volume of traffic btn Tema and mpakadan? The purpose of the line is for cargo. The port facilities haven't been finished yet that's why it's only transporting passengers. Obviously more coaches wld b added
