Soldiers take President to task over "wonder banks"

As mass demonstrations continued in Accra last week, soldiers also took on President Flt. Lt. Rawlings at the Burma Camp over the govt's directive to close the "wonder banks".

The soldiers reacted angrily to the order which is alleged to have been imposed personally by the President. In an interview with the Free Press, the soldiers said they told the President during his meeting with them at Burma Camp: "this time, we too no go sit down make them cheat we everyday". One of the soldiers said "you see ... the state banks have been helping only big people in the NDC. Now these Resource 500 and Pyram people feel for the people, they are the peoples banks they work with the peoples money they get profit and they share the profit with the people".

Another air force man said "let Rawlings know that we are on warpath. He cannot take away our rights. Didn't he train us to fight for our rights. The peoples banks are our rights.
