Stanchart donates to University of Ghana water project

Accra, March 3, GNA - Standard Chartered Ghana limited on Thursday presented a cheque for 100 million cedis to the University of Ghana, Legon to support the water supply augmentation project aimed at addressing inadequate water supplies.

The Project seeks to increase water supply to the campus through the sinking of three boreholes with submersible pumps to pump water to the University tank.

Professor Kwadwo Asenso-Okyere, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, said apart from supply problems from the Ghana Water Company, the substantial growth in the population in the environs of the University had created distribution problem.

"As early as 0900 hours water supply to the University ceases, making life difficult for the 27,000 students and a workforce of 4,000 on campus."

He said the Authorities launched the project in an attempt to find a solution to the water problem.

Mrs Florence Hutchful, a Senior Official of the Bank, said it was aware of the seriousness of the problem and saw their support as vital to address it.

She said the Bank was also providing 100 boreholes in 100 deprived communities in the country.
