Stanchart pushes stock index up

Accra, Aug. 16, GNA - Standard Chartered Bank, the second highest priced equity on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), on Monday pushed the main index up on a 10,000-cedi gain in quiet trading.

The main index, the GSE All-Share Index, climbed by 48.88 points to 7,390.93 points and the change-for-the-year was higher at 107.99 per cent from Friday's 106.62 per cent.

Total shares traded ended lower at 51,600 from Friday's close of 99,800 shares.

Market capitalisation ended higher at 97,950.93 billion cedis from 97,828.40 billion cedis from 3,380.89 million issued shares. On the broader market, there were two price changes - one up and one down.

Standchart gained 10,000 cedis at 150,000 cedis but SG-SSB was down by 750 cedis at 31,000 cedis.
