Stock Index Inches Up

The Ghana Stock Exchange all share index, the main market indicator of the Accra bourse, was up by 1.35 points Friday to close trading at 861.21 points compared to 859.86 Wednesday.

Unilever Ghana Limited and Super Paper Products Limited gained 50 and five cedis respectively to push the index up, although a corresponding loss of 50 cedis by Aluworks moderated the gain.

Traded volumes were up at 210,900 from 25,500 Wednesday led by Aluworks, which sold all 166,000 shares posted. Offers declined from 4.5 million Wednesday to close the week at 726,390 shares.

Bids recorded significant gains closing the week up at 233,800 shares compared with 34,900 at the previous session.

Market capitalisation was down at 3,608.90 billion cedis at 3,637.82 billion cedis.

On the broader market, there were three-price changes - two positive and one negative. Unilever gained 50 cedis to close at 1,650 cedis, Super Paper Products Limited also went up by five cedis at 255 cedis and Aluworks lost 50 cedis to close at 4,100.
