Stock Index Posts Modest Gains

ACCRA, Ghana (PANA) - The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) All-Share Index on Friday went up by a slim 0.1 point to 741.17 points from 741.07 points.

The All-Share Index, the main market indicator, has for the last few trading sessions slipped but Friday's gain adds 0.01 percent to the change in the year to date to 0.68 percent from 0.67 percent.

Investors posted a modest number of shares with British American Tobacco Company (BAT) leading the way with 223,300 shares at 466 cedis per share.

The least of 100 shares were posted by Camelot Ghana Limited (CMLT).

Other market numbers were, however, lower than those recorded at mid-week trading.

Total shares offered finished the week at 829,570 compared to 906,050 with shares traded also closing down at 12,200 from 49,710.

Bids ended at 37,100 from 51,300 shares demanded on Wednesday.

Market capitalisation went up slightly from 3,213.15 billion cedis to 3,213.31 billion cedis [3,683 cedis = 1 USD].

In the broader market, there was only one price change with 13 of the 22 listed equities recording negative pressures.

CFAO Ghana Limited (CFAO) gained three cedis to close the week at 42 cedis.
