Stocks Keep Moving Up At Exchange

Accra, (Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. Trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) today continued its positive trend with upward movements in nearly all market indicators. As has been the trend this year, the market was activated by investor interest in banking, manufacturing and trading concerns. The GSE All-Share Index gained 1.91 points to open the week at 468.18 points, up from Friday's closing of 466.27 points. Total shares traded was pegged at 127,750, down from Friday's 272,530. Total bids were 19,722,220 million as against offers of 593,020 shares. Market capitalisation rose again to 2,888.20 billion cedis compared to 2,885.39 billion posted on Friday. On the broader market, there were six price changes, five gainers and one down. Fan Milk Ghana Limited (FML) and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) were 20 cedis richer each to start the week at 500 cedis and 7,200 cedis respectively. Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL) gained 15 cedis to close at 520 cedis, Mobil Oil Ghana Limited (MOGL) made 10 cedis at 6,310 cedis and Social Security Bank (SSB) was up five cedis to finish at 1,655 cedis. Pioneer Tobacco Company was the lone loser, slipping one cedi to end at 394 cedis. The following are the last prices of listed equities quoted in cedis:

The Cedi this morning maintained its value against other currencies of the world. The Dollar opened between ?2,250.00 and 2,280.00 Against the pound sterling, it is trading between ? 3,530.00 and ?3,600.00, and against the Deutsche Marks, it is between ?1,240.00 and ?1,300.00.
