Accra, March 4, GNA - The subscription period for the Golden Jubilee Bond has been extended from March 5, 2008 to June 30, 2008, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu announced on Tuesday. A statement signed by the Minister in Accra said this was in response to "the significant interest shown by Ghanaians in the Diaspora and their overwhelming request for the subscription to be extended". The Ministry said the extension would ensure that all Ghanaians were presented with the opportunity to invest in the Golden Jubilee Savings Bond.
At the launch of the Bond, Mr Baah-Wiredu said the Government expected to raise GH¢ 50.00 million for investment in infrastructure projects in each of the 10 regions in commemoration of the Jubilee. He said the Bond was also intended to promote savings culture among Ghanaians that would support the significantly higher levels of investment to propel the country into middle-income status by 2015. "The bond has been designed to achieve other important objectives such as broadening the participation of Ghanaians in the formal financial system and promoting long term savings and investment culture in Ghana," the Minister said.
