The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has questioned the rational behind the decision by government to deregulate the petroleum sector.
At its emergency steering meeting, the TUC wondered why the government should decide to completely and at a go, remove subsidies on petroleum products as part of renewed moves to deregulate the petroleum sector.
A release issued in Accra and signed by the Secretary General of the TUC, Kwasi Adu Amankwaa stated that in the opinion of the TUC, it is important for government to establish the likely repercussions of the exercise and also to improve structures, which would counterbalance the social impact of the petroleum sector.
Mr. Adu Amankwaa admonished the government to institute structures that would absorb shocks that would result from the implementation of that policy in order to make it acceptable to the citizenry.
