Tarkwa Branch owes ?9.3bn to SNNIT

Tarkwa, Sept 15, GNA - The Tarkwa branch of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SNNIT) is indebted to the scheme to the tune of 9.3 billion cedis.

Mr Samuel Annang, the Tarkwa Branch Manager of SNNIT, said this at a one-day seminar organised for 100 employers drawn from some organisations and companies at Tarkwa.

He said companies and organizations that are in active service owe the scheme 2.9 billion cedis whereas defunct companies owe it 6.3 million cedis.

Some dormant companies are indebted to the scheme to the tune of 34 million cedis cedis. ''SNNIT is making efforts to get companies that are in operation to defray their debt or SNNIT will be compelled to take legal action against them.''

''Efforts are being made to track down dormant or defunct companies and organisations.''

He said some of the problems SSNIT faces are wrong quotation of the social security number by claimants and failure to put date of birth on one's social security card.

Mr Annang appealed to employers, especially those in the mining companies, not to shield expatriates who refuse to pay the contribution of those they employ.

Mr Kwaku Osei Bimpong, the Public Affairs Manager of SNNIT, said SNNIT is focusing more on being customer friendly. "We are focusing our inspectorate activity on the contributors so as know their problems and resolve them.''
