Tax Stamp: GRA clamps down on defaulting retailers, distributors in Accra Central

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Tuesday stormed Makola market in search of defaulting retailers and distributors of the tax stamps.

The authority seized cartons of carbonated drinks and water from defaulting retail shops.

According to the Chief Revenue Officer, Kwabena Anto Apau, this week is dedicated to searching cigarettes and tobacco products distributors and retailers

‘The whole of the week, we shall go to town to make sure that, products without the tax stamps are seized and ensured that the stamps are affixed on them, the emphasis will be on cigarette and other tobacco products, in fact we will visit all the major markets in Accra and across the country to ensure that the tax stamps are affixed on tobacco products” he said

He said, ‘We want all retailers to ensure that the manufacturers have the stamps on the products before they allow it in their shops. We will continue to visit retail shops and ensure that the tax stamp is compiled with”

The Chief Revenue Officer, further warned retailers of bottled products to either shun purchasing products without the tax stamp or risk having the items seized.
