A stalwart of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has suggested that the country's local currency is warning Ghanaians against voting for change.

According to him, the cedi has begun gaining strength a few days before the 2024 elections.

With just four days to the December 7 elections, the NPP stalwart has been seen strongly advocating for a Bawumia-led government.

Taking to his X page (formerly Twitter) on December 3, 2024, he wrote: "It looks like the cedi is itself warning Ghanaians against change. Over the past week or more, it has continued gaining weight, day after day, against the dollar and other major currencies."

Earlier, Gabby noted that Ghanaians should not judge the NPP and NDC by the cedi-to-dollar exchange rates.

According to him, the cedi's depreciation should not be a yardstick for determining whether either party should be given the mandate.

He added that this is because the cedi has not performed significantly better under either regime.

In a post shared on his X page on December 3, 2024, he wrote: "Rightly so, people are comparing these eight years of NPP (with Bawumia as VP) to the eight years of NDC under President Mahama and VP Amissah-Arthur to help decide on December 7 whether to give Bawumia his chance or give Mahama another shot."
