The Deputy Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, has said that the country is bouncing back from its economic hardships.

According to him, figures for the growth rate from the last quarter clearly show the country is exiting economic hardships.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on September 20, 2024, he said "The economy is bouncing back. When you look at the figures, the growth rate in the last quarter is almost 7%. And it shows that gradually, we are coming out of the difficulty that we went through between 2020 and 2023."

Nana Akomea attributed the country’s economic hardship to COVID-19 and the Russian war.

“The difficulty that we went through, you would agree that a lot of it stems from the situation that came about because of COVID and the Russian war. We all know that the difficulties that we faced between 2020 and 2023, a lot of it was due to the international situation, a situation that was caused by COVID. Of course, you can always point to some local factors," he added.

Referring to a statement made by former President Mahama, he said that the international situation had a negative impact on all economies

He added that the international situation had negative effects on all economies.

According to him, John Mahama spoke about the huge negative impact COVID-19 had on African economies in Oxford but turned around and exempted Ghana.

He added that John Mahama blamed the economic hardship on the current political administration.

Nana Akomea reiterated that there is evidence that shows that Ghana is part of the African countries which were greatly affected by COVID-19.

“But we know there was an international situation that impacted negatively on all economies. Indeed, President Mahama himself when he went to Oxford, he was very clear about the difficulties that COVID has brought on African economies," he said.
