Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has voiced his concerns about how African countries manage their natural resources.
According to him, the situation is "tragic," especially the continent's underutilisation of solar energy.
He said this during the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Christian Service University in Kumasi on Friday, October 4, 2024.
As reported by ciinewsroom.com, Prof. Oquaye emphasized Africa's missed opportunities to leverage its abundant natural resources for sustainable development.
He highlighted solar power as a significant, yet largely neglected, resource.
"The way Africa is dealing with natural resources, which God has endowed us with, is very tragic," Prof. Oquaye remarked.
He added “The BBC reported recently that solar energy production in the Netherlands is higher than the whole of Africa put together, and Africa is the home of the sun. God will not be happy with this,” he stated.
Prof. Oquaye called on African leaders to take decisive action to harness the continent's vast solar potential and invest in renewable energy solutions to drive long-term growth and sustainability.
