The Concerned Farmers Association says there is more than enough food to feed the Ghanaian populace hence no need for panic attacks on what citizens will feed on during the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the association, farmers made bounty harvest for rice, maize, and other foodstuffs which can feed citizens for the next three years and more.

A statement signed by the president of the Association, Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonus II, and copied to GhanaWeb told Ghanaians to ignore reports that there is a shortage of food in the country.

“Ghanaians should not live in panic state or in fear because there is enough food that can feed the Ghanaian population for 3 years and more without Ghana importing food. Concerned farmers, during our tour on identification on community challenges, found out that there is enough maize and soya beans for poultry and human consumption.”

Thus, “Ghanaians will continue to enjoy their local food because farmers have both old stock and new rice, maize and other foods stuff.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, dismissed fears about the potential food shortage in the country as a result of the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the minister, Ghana has enough food to feed the population due to the implementation of one of the government’s flagship programme; Planting for Food and Jobs.

On the increase of prices of food, Dr. Akoto attributed the spike to the partial lockdown introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to contain the spread of the COVID-19 disease in some parts of the country.
