The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that the 2025 budget presented by the Minister of Finance does not inspire hope.
He labeled the budget as an "azaa" budget, meaning a deceptive budget.
The leader of the NPP expressed disappointment that the 24-hour economy initiative was not included in the budget.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament after the budget presentation, he said, “We have witnessed what can best be described as an ‘Azaa’ budget. Their much talked-about 24-hour economy, the president came here and said it is not ready, and now the Finance Minister presents the budget, and the 24-hour economy is not included in his statement. The youth of this country have been waiting for the 2025 budget, but the minister tells us that the policy will be introduced later.”
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, disagreed with this assertion, stating that the budget is solid.
He said, “The budget provides solid reforms, transitioning our growth from a galamsey economy to a real economy.”
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, also assured that the government will work to address high inflation and the depreciation of the cedi.
