Transport Ministry Inaugurates Advisory Board

In fulfillment of PNDC Law 327 which enjoins every Ministry to establish a Ministerial Advisory Board, the Minister of Transport, Mrs. Dzifa Attivor last Tuesday inaugurated the Ministry’s reconstituted Advisory Board with a call on the members to be diligent in their duties and ensure that they work in consonance with the objectives of the Ministry and towards the realisation of the vision of the president for the sector.

In her inaugural address, the Minister noted that the inauguration of the Board was one of the key statutory obligations that underpin the existence of the Ministry as a policy-making body responsible for the formulation, co-ordination and monitoring of transport services; infrastructure policies and programmes for both public and private sectors of the economy.

The nine members Advisory Board will, among others, be responsible for the promotion of constant interaction between the Ministry and those who patronise its services and also advise the Minister on adjustments in policy direction, planning objectives and operational strategies.

"As a Ministry and government, the people who gave us the mandate to govern them expect us to give of our best and deliver on our promises within a four-year term and I believe we can succeed in this effort through hard work, commitment to duty, stakeholder collaboration and your wise counsel’’ the minister told the board members.

She urged the new board members to get to work immediately saying "I would therefore entreat you to get to work immediately in the pursuit of our mandate so that we can together build Ghana for our generation and those yet unborn."

Mrs. Attivor, who expressed confidence in the new board members, was upbeat that they will bring their knowledge and expertise to bear on the policy objectives and operations of the Ministry for the benefit of the entire nation.

She noted that the Ministry was currently working on some critical priority projects and programmes; that the board members would be updated on the nature and status of implementation of all such projects.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Mr. Alidu Abubakari Sadique, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Minister and the president for the confidence reposed in them. He promised that they would diligently discharge their mandate to allow for the realisation of the objectives of the Ministry and government as a whole.

The board comprises the Minister, Mrs. Dzifa Attivor as chairperson with Mrs. Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the deputy Transport Minister, Mr. Twumasi Selby-Ankra, Chief Director at the Ministry, and Professor Mohammed Salifu as members.

The other members are Mr. Alidu Abubakar Sadique, Mr. Kwabena Boadu-Oko Afari, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, Mr. Steve Akuffo and Rev. Godwin Douglas Mensah.
