Two gari processing plants installed in Kwaebibirem

Kade (E/R), May 14, GNA- Work on the construction of structures to house two cassava processing plants at Bamenase and Takyiman in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region have been completed at a cost of 246 million cedis.

Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, the District Chief Executive, told the District Assembly meeting at Kade on Thursday that the plants which were supplied by the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs, have been installed and tested. He explained that the two structures were funded from the Common Fund. He said in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of cassava to feed the plants, arrangements were being made to obtain hybrid cassava planting materials from Kwamoso in the Akuapem North District to supplement cassava produced in the district.

The DCE also appealed to those who have large cassava farms to contact the assembly for outright purchase so that there would be enough produce to feed the plants. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said in view of the large investment that the assembly had made on the project, the Assembly should run the facility on commercial basis.
