US-Ghana Economic Council Launched

The US-Ghana Economic Council (USGEC) which seeks to support a broad range of activities designed to promote economic development, wealth creation and to provide opportunities for the enhancement of US business interests in Ghana has been officially launched at the Georgetown Club in Washington DC.

Membership of USGEC comprises companies and individuals who subscribe to the vision of creating robust, dynamic and vital economic links between the private sectors and government of the US and Ghana.

Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, performed the launching ceremony.

USGEC, one of the initiatives of His Excellency, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, Ambassador of Ghana to the US was hosted by Coca Cola Company, other foundation and Charter members of USGEC including Lehman Brothers, Cargill, CMS Energy Corporation and Newmont Mining Co.

The event, which was resounding success, was attended by Officials from the White House, the US Department of State, Commerce and other US Departments.

In attendance were also Senior Executives of US corporate entities, members of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as senior officials of the Ghana Government including the Regional Ministers of the Eastern, Brong Ahafo, Ashanti and Western Regions and the Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center, who were all in Washington DC to participate in a two-day Investment Forum also organized by the Ghana Embassy.
