US Trade Mission Confers With President

A United States trade mission on Wednesday called on President J. A. Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, to discuss investment opportunities in the country.

The mission, led by Mr. William Watley, Secretary of the Commerce and Economic Growth Commission of New Jersey, represents 25 different American companies.

Mr. Watley said the various companies in the delegation had had fruitful discussions with their Ghanaian counterparts and hoped that would lead to joint ventureships in Ghana.

The delegation, he said, was made up of companies from the pharmaceuticals, information technology, travel and tours and manufacturing. He said those sectors constitute a very substantial percentage of the American business community.

Mr. Watley said they have been very happy with the cooperation from the business community in Ghana.

The leader of the delegation said that Ghana, being the gateway to the West African sub-region, it was important that American companies paid attention to her business community in their quest to explore investment opportunities in the sub-region.

President Kufuor responding, expressed happiness that some agreements have been reached between the two parties and hoped that those agreements would yield fruitful results. He said the agreements would further strengthen the already cordial relationship between Ghana and the US.

President Kufuor assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to create a conducive investment climate for potential investors to boost business in the country.
