United States OPIC boss visits Ghana

Ms. Elizabeth L. Littlefield , United States Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) President and CEO is visiting Ghana this week as part of an OPIC delegation meeting with Vice President of Ghana Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur and other Ghana government officials as well as U.S. and Ghana business leaders.

A statement from the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy said the delegation will also meet with sponsors of current OPIC projects. “OPIC has a long history of supporting U.S. private sector investment in Ghana and we look forward to meeting with business and government leaders to see firsthand how the projects we are supporting today are building on past progress and paving the way toward a more prosperous future,” said Ms. Elizabeth L. Littlefield.

In discussions with key business leaders and organizations, Ms. Littlefield will learn more about Ghana’s investment climate and new opportunities for U.S. investors to partner with Ghanaian businesses in a variety of sectors.

Recognizing how critical the energy, agriculture, health and financial services sectors are to Ghana’s long-term economic growth, OPIC will pay close attention to how best to support investors interested in partnering with Ghanaians in those sectors.

“The success of this project and many others that OPIC has supported in Ghana show how private capital can be a force for good, supporting business and advancing development that helps to improve the lives of ordinary citizens,” Ms. Littlefield said. “As the U.S. Government’s development finance institution, OPIC is proud to be playing a role catalyzing private investment in Ghana.”

OPIC currently has active projects ranging from water rehabilitation to agriculture, healthcare, energy and access to finance. OPIC is the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. It mobilizes private capital to help solve critical development challenges and in doing so, advances U.S. foreign policy.

Because OPIC works with the U.S. private sector, it helps U.S. businesses gain footholds in emerging markets catalyzing revenues, jobs and growth opportunities both at home and abroad. OPIC achieves its mission by providing investors with financing, guarantees, political risk insurance, and support for private equity investment funds.
