Mr. Benjamin Quarcoo, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has asked customers in the region to use its mobile app to buy power and pay bills.
He said in the wake of the mode of spread of the virus of COVID-19, the new app, would reduce the huge queues at the various offices to access their services.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, he indicated that the new smart meters come with Mobile Application (ECG Mobile App) which could be used to make payments on all postpaid metered accounts and selected smart prepayment meters in the system.
He explained that the ECG Power App could be used for other services such as reporting faults, reporting power outages and making general enquiries aside the payment of bills and purchasing of power.
He was of the hope that the new smart meters would reduce the huge queues at the various offices and clamp down on customers who tempered with the meters and engage in all forms of illegality on the meters since they could monitor and trace the meters from their offices.
Mr Quarcoo hinted that graphical and info graphical educational messages on COVID 19 have been displayed at vantage points, while alcohol-based hand sanitizers and handwashing facilities placed at vantage points and personal protective equipment (PPEs) provided for frontline staff like receptionists and client service staffs.
He added that all staff have undergone training offered by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on the prescribed protocols while staff are running on shifts to reduce crowding in the office and maintain the required social distance.
