VRA to generate over 3,000 mega watts of power by 2016

The Volta River Authority (VRA) will by the last quarter of 2016 generate over 3,000 megawatts of electrical power.

Currently about 2,000 megawatts are produced from various power producing facilities in the country.

Director for thermal generation at VRA, Richard Bagber disclosed this to Gold Business after a tour of the facilities at the authority in the Western Region with the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

According to Richard Bagber, other power generating facilities at Kpong, Takoradi and the expected gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline to power the Sunon Asogli plant at Kpone will complement the existing power plants to achieving the expected 3,000 megawatts.

Commenting on power generation sustainability in the country, the Director for thermal generation at VRA indicated that the authority has a comprehensive programme to roll out 200 megawatts of power annually in the coming years.
