Vodafone holds Mobile for Good Summit

Vodafone Foundation has held a Mobile for Good summit with the intention of utilising mobile technology to make communities in Ghana better.

The summit, which was held in Accra and attended by civil society groups, business leaders, non-governmental organisations and development agencies, was on the theme; The Contributions of Mobile Technology to Ghana’s Socio-economic Development.

Mr Haris Broumidis, Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana said the Vodafone Foundation - a social responsibility arm of the telecommunication company- has assisted many individuals, organisations in deprived communities to empower them.

He said with the Mobile for Good project, however, the company was looking forward to fulfill its social responsibility programmes through the use of technology. With the Mobile for Good project, Vodafone is going to select any project that will empower people through the use of technology, he said.

Ms Uche Ofodile, Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana said the adoption of the slogan power to the people by Vodafone was being fulfilled as many people and communities were getting support from the company.

She said the telecommunication company had so far renovated the children’s cancer unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and had provided support to other hospitals in the country, including the innovative Vodafone Healthline which provided solution to peoples medical conditions.

She assured that Vodafone would continue to provide support to the needy in deprived communities.

Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, member of the Vodafone Foundation said applications were now opened for the submission of proposals, adding that, the best eight of the proposals would be considered for implementation. Participants at the summit commended Vodafone for its numerous support to the needy.
