The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adwoa Ntoso, has bemoaned the increasing spate of fuel smuggling in the region, describing the situation as very unpatriotic.
Madam Ntoso, who is also the Head of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), could not make statistics readily available but was emphatic that the situation “is tarnishing the reputation of the region.”
She made the claim in Ho when she joined Muslims in the Volta Region to climax this year ’s Eid-ul- Fitir celebration which marked the end of the one month Ramadan fasting period.
She called on residents in the region to desist from indulging in the excessive smuggling of fuel to other neighbouring countries because “it is contributing to the economic challenges facing the country.”
She explained that the act is rather leading to the influx of the CFA which is also putting pressure on the Cedi. Madam Ntoso commended the Muslim community for ensuring a peaceful co-existence between them and other members of the society.
The Regional Minister donated 50 bags of rice and bottles of cooking oil on behalf of the President to the Muslim community in Ho to climax the celebration.
