WAMZS meeting takes off in Accra

Accra, Aug 26, GNA - Ghana is hosting the next series of statutory meetings of the West African Monitory Zone (WAMZ) from August 29 to September 1, this year 2005.

The highlight of this meeting would be the 18th Session of the Convergence Council of Ministers and Governors of Central Banks of the West African Monetary Zone on September 1st 2005.

A statement from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning said Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, would chair the meetings.

It said the series of meetings are to attract over 20 ministers, five governors and 80 delegates from the five WAMZ countries. Issues to be discussed include the Action Plan for the revised WAMZ programme 2005 to 2009, Proposals for the restructuring of WAMI and the Statutes of banking and non-banking and non-bank financial institutions in the WAMZ.

Other meetings that would precede the Convergence Council meeting include the 21st Meeting of the Technical Committee and the meeting of the Committee of Central Bank Governors.
