WB to Support Second Phase of GIFMIS project

Mr Ismaila Ceesay, Task Team Leader for World Bank, has announced its support for the second phase of Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) project.

Mr Ceesay said this during the 7th World Bank implementation review of the first phase of GIFMIS project in Accra.

He commended Ghana for a successful implementation of the first phase project.

“Base on my own assessment, I think the Public Financial Management reforms have been successful for the past four years and we appreciate it,” he said.

He said it is important that the achievement chalked is not allowed to go waste, hence the support of the World Bank for the next second phase of the project.

He commended Mr Seth Tekper, Minister of Finance for his guidance since the first phase of the project.

“We are there to support government, but not to supervise government and we are here to support the implementation”, he said.

Mr Terkper, said the purpose of the review was to take stock of the GIFMIS phase one, in order to prepare for phase two.

He said, the second phase would focus more on Human Resource Management Information System strategy (HRMIS).

According to him, the HRMIS would help co-ordinate and process all human resource related issues to ensure the efficient management of human resources in the public service.

“Payroll challenges would no more be a challenge if we should have HRMIS and the issue of ghost names will also be a thing of the past,” he added.
