The Bank of Ghana's closure of Dek-Nock Investments on Friday, July 19, 2024, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, resulted in a spontaneous massing up of customers at the financial institution's branches located at Nungua and Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

In videos sighted by GhanaWeb, dozens of agitated customers, upon hearing the news, are seen gathered at the offices of Dek-Nock, seeking answers on the status of their funds.

In one of the videos, a customer who claims to be a land guard and has deposited GH₵2,100 with the institution swore to retrieve the funds by travelling to the Northern part of Ghana to seek spiritual assistance.

"They are gone with my money, 21 million (GH₵2,100). I swear to God, walaahi, everyone will hear about me; I will travel to the North. If you go to Kasoa, I am one of the land guards there," he stated.

The closure, which took place on Friday, July 19, 2024, in accordance with Section 20(2)(g) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

In a statement issued by the Central Bank, it explained that Dek-Nock Investments was found to be engaged in unauthorized deposit-taking, which is a violation of Section 6(1) of Act 930.

"The Ghana Police Service is conducting further investigations into the operations of Dek-Nock Investments. All customers of Dek-Nock Investments are urged to remain calm while investigations continue," the statement read.

The BoG also informed the general public and stakeholders that they would be notified of the next steps.

The Bank of Ghana reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal deposit-taking activities and stated that individuals found guilty of violating the law will face the necessary sanctions stipulated by law.
