'We don’t take deposits' – MenzGold reacts to Bank of Ghana claims

Gold dealership firm MenzGold Ghana has rejected claims by the Bank of Ghana that the company is conducting a banking business.

In a rebuttal Tuesday evening, the Accra-based firm said the announcement by the BOG was surprising since banking has never been part of their core operations. They added that publications on this distinction had been made in national dailies and across several mediums, and wondered why the Central Bank would make such claims.

Corporate Affairs Manager of MenzGold Ghana, Nana Yaw Ofei, on Thursday said the company has asked his legal department to take up the matter.

Officials of the Bank of Ghana led by Second Deputy Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiamahon, Thursday made the claim while appearing at the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
