Chairman of the Ghana National Poultry Farmers Association, Victor Yaw Oppong Agyei has denied reports that live birds are in short supply for the Christmas season due to shortage caused by the Bird flu epidemic.

“The reports being circulated are false. In fact we’ve prepared for this X’mas, bearing in mind the high demand of live birds in Christmas seasons. We have adequate stock of birds for supply this X’mas” Mr. Oppong Agyei told Kasapa News Friday.

Reports are rife that the issue of bird flu which hit the country months ago and led to the destruction of thousands of birds in the Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern and Ashanti regions has greatly affected the population of birds on various farms for sale at this Christmas.

Mr Oppong said the Ministry killing about 44, 000 birds infected with the Bird flu cannot affect our total stock in farms”. He said the fraction of birds killed by the Ministry is nothing to cause a shortage on various farms.

He advised the general public disregard such rumours, assuring that the population of live birds on farms available to Ghanaians this Christmas is enough countrywide.
