West Akyem District Assembly to establish Databank

Asamankese (E/R) April 17, GNA - The West Akyem District Assembly in collaboration with the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) is to establish a Databank to promote tourism and to attract investment to the area.

The databank when established would store information on the District's resources including tourist potentials to make them available to prospective investors.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf Mr. Umar Amoah, District Chief Executive, at a seminar for Small-scale entrepreneurs at Asamankese at the weekend.

It was organised by the NBSSI for more than 100 participants from the Ghana Hairdressers and Beautician Association, the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Participants from the Batik Tye and Dye Association, Internal Revenue Services and the West Akyem District Assembly also attended. The DCE said the District was endowed with potentials and noted that they would create jobs and reduce unemployment among the youth if they were developed.

Miss Rebecca Kodua, Eastern Regional Manager of the NBSSI urged the participants to take advantage of the seminar to improve their skills. She called on them to keep records to enable them to determine the financial positions of the business, saying, this would also help them to make provision for the payments of their taxes and to meet other obligations.

Miss Philomena Osei-Banahene, District Officer of the NBSSI said the seminar was aimed at assisting the participants to identify business opportunities available in the area. Mr. George Dwemena Ofori one of the facilitators said the programme was also to inculcate the banking culture in them and to assist them to produce quality goods to improve their incomes.
